How does the brain transform sensory inputs into useful behaviour? Are learned and innate decisions encoded in a similar way? How and where is all the required information integrated and what is it that leads to a decision?

I am interested in answering these questions by working with the perfect model organism: the juvenile zebrafish. The range of behaviours it expresses and the lack of pigmentation allow me to use a number of really cool techniques: 2-photon microscopy, various behaviour set-ups, single cell sequencing, and of course many computational tools used for the analysis.

When I am not in the lab you can find me somewhere in the mountains or playing board games with friends.
